You’re probably wondering: “How exactly does the Chevy Silverado 1500 reach its current towing capacity?” Well, its towing capacity and performance can be attributed to the variety of robust engine options: 

  • 4.3L V6 Engine: This standard Silverado 1500 engine produces 285 hp and a best-in-class 305 lb-ft of torque. It has a maximum towing capacity of 7,900 pounds, which is slightly more than what its smaller sibling — the Colorado — tows. 
  • 2.7L Turbo Engine: This engine surpasses the specs of the aforementioned with 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque.Schertz drivers will have access to a 9,600-pound towing capacity with this engine. 
  • 5.3L V8 Engine with Direct Fuel Management: Equipped with this available engine, the Chevy Silverado 1500 reaches 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can tow a maximum of 11,500 pounds with this particular engine.(Note: the same engine with active fuel management tows up to 10,000 pounds). 
  • 6.2L V8 Engine: This engine can tow the Silverado 1500 maximum of 13,300 pounds (on the RST trim). This V8 also generates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. 
  • 3.0L I6 Turbo-Diesel: With the available diesel powertrain, the Chevy Silverado towing capacity is 9,500 pounds. This engine reaches 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque on Boerne roads.
